Our Support Policy for Humanitarian Career Development
At ALIMA, we believe that dedication and training are key drivers in transforming humanitarian medicine. Our support and career management policy provides professional growth opportunities for all roles, whether in the field or at our Dakar headquarters.
Building Skills for Lasting Impact
From the moment they join and throughout their careers, ALIMA employees benefit from tailored support and targeted training programs. Our initiatives focus on three main goals:
- Improving performance: Empowering our teams to excel in delivering medical and operational projects.
- Supporting change: Supporting employees in adopting new tools, technologies, and processes.
- Fostering connections: Strengthening internal cohesion and encouraging the sharing of experiences.
Our Priorities
To achieve these goals, our capacity-building efforts focus on three main areas:
- Cross-functional training and onboarding: Ensuring new hires adapt quickly to their roles.
- Transformation support: Helping teams integrate new tools and processes.
- Skills development: Providing training specific to each position.
We prioritise group training sessions with a strong organizational impact, such as:
- Security
- Epidemiology and statistics
- Project and team management
- Training for trainers
Additionally, we offer individualized programs, including coaching, mentoring, and secondment opportunities to explore new functions or horizons.

Supporting Ongoing Training
The Individual Training Fund (FIFI) plays a central role in supporting continuing learning. It allows employees to access certification or diploma training, with financial support covering up to 50% of the costs. Eligibility criteria include:
- Seniority
- Position level
- Motivation and relevance of the professional development plan
This initiative addresses a critical challenge: providing professionals from our intervention countries with access to training that is often rare and expensive.
Strategic Partnerships with Leading Institutions
ALIMA collaborates with renowned institutions to provide high-quality educational opportunities for its employees:
- Bioforce (Lyon & Dakar): ALIMA is a member of the Board of Directors, and our experts contribute as trainers.
- Senghor University (Alexandria) and University of Paris Nanterre: Partnerships for recognized medical academic training.
- Center for Humanitarian Leadership (Deakin, Australia): Offers a diploma in humanitarian leadership, followed annually by our senior staff.
- ISPED (Bordeaux): Co-facilitation training on epidemiology and statistics, which are crucial for our research teams.
In 2023, our Executive Director, Moumouni Kinda, had the honour of being a class sponsor at the Center for Humanitarian Leadership.
