The role of health promoters is to organize individual or group information sessions at the hospital with the mothers of hospitalized patients, on topics such the signs of malnutrition, a child’s diet, breastfeeding, or even hygiene.
Modou has worked as a health promoter for ALIMA in the Mokolo district hospital since 2016. He is from Limani, a town near the Nigerian border. When Boko Haram attacked his town in 2015, Modou was forced to flee with his wife and children. He has since settled in Mokolo, where he draws from his experiences as a displaced person to help the mothers of hospitalized children and give them hope.

ALIMA has worked in the Far North Region of Cameroon since May 2016. In the Mokolo health district, ALIMA supports the district hospital’s pediatric and nutrition wards. Since May 2016, ALIMA’s teams have hospitalized nearly 6,400 children in pediatric care and 2,700 in nutritional care in this hospital.
ALIMA’s activities in Cameroon are funded by the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), Malteser International, the Interministerial Committee on Food Aid (CIAA), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the French government’s Centre for Crisis and Support (CDCS).
