In 2018, more than one million children, under the age of five, suffered from acute malnutrition in northeastern Nigeria.
Mustapha is one of the many staff at ALIMA’s Intensive Therapeutic Feeding Center, at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Borno State. Last year, 1,304 children under 5 years of age suffering from severe acute malnutrition with complications were cared for in this center. Thanks to the work of our specially trained staff, more than 90% survived.
Many of these children come from families who had to flee their homes due to ongoing insecurity in the region, and who now live in a camp for displaced people in and around the city.
