Mental health in Ethiopia: Ahmed, from patient to community volunteer | ALIMA

In Ethiopia, a severe mental health condition isolated Ahmed for months, misunderstood by those around him. Anas, ALIMA’s mental health supervisor, took charge of his treatment at Hargelle hospital.

In Afder, in southern Ethiopia, Ahmed was isolated, stigmatized, and could no longer recognize some members of his family.

Supported for six months at Hargelle hospital by Anas, a mental health supervisor, and ALIMA’s teams, he gradually regained his health, his social life, and his hope.

Discover his story, told by Anas.
