In a feature published in its World Report section on September 9, 2026, The Lancet highlights ALIMA as anoperational and scientific pillar of the Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, from running treatment centers in Ituri to co-leading the EBO-PEP clinical trials.
“Their involvement in the research part and operational part is also very unique.” says Thierno Balde, Incident Manager at the World Health Organization.
The journal traces this back to ALIMA’s founding in Niger in 2009. The organization was established on the basis of a unique model: that of an international NGO working in genuine partnership with, and sharing leadership with, national organizations.
