Incident at Health Facilities in Rwampara Amid the Ebola Outbreak Response

On the morning of 21 May 2026, two tents used to treat patients with Ebola were set on fire at Rwampara Hospital. Six patients were receiving treatment in these medical facilities. All of them are currently being cared for at the hospital.

The international medical NGO ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) condemns the endangerment of human lives and the destruction of medical equipment essential for the safe care of patients, in the context of a particularly critical epidemic.

ALIMA warns against the spread of incorrect or unconfirmed information on social media and the internet, which is likely to fuel fear, misinformation and mistrust towards health facilities and the teams involved in the Ebola response. In such a sensitive context, the circulation of verified information is essential to protect communities and ensure access to care.

ALIMA’s teams remain fully mobilised on the ground. In close coordination with health authorities and partners, immediate measures are being implemented to limit the impact of this incident: temporary reorganisation of care areas, securing medical activities, redeployment of essential equipment, preparation of alternative solutions to ensure the continuity of patient care, and ensuring the security of health workers.

The medical NGO ALIMA has recognised expertise in the management of Ebola virus disease and is doing everything possible to ensure continuity of care, protect patients and support the teams involved in the Ebola response.
