“For me, it’s our humanity”: CNN goes inside ALIMA’s Ebola response in DRC (video)

From Bunia General Hospital in Ituri, CNN highlights ALIMA’s response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The report follows journalist Clarissa Ward inside the hospital, all the way to the “red zone,” where patients suspected of having contracted Ebola are treated. It shows the rigor of the protection protocols, the exhaustion of healthcare workers, and their commitment to patients in a context marked by fear, grief and uncertainty.

This outbreak is particularly concerning: the Bundibugyo strain remains poorly understood and, to date, there is no vaccine or specific treatment with proven efficacy. In eastern DRC, ALIMA is supporting the care of confirmed and suspected cases, contact tracing, community awareness and the installation of adapted isolation structures.

At the heart of the report, Dr. Richard Kojan, an intensive care doctor with ALIMA, speaks about the difficulty of working in these conditions, but also about the commitment that guides the teams: “For me, it’s our humanity.”

CNN thus sheds light on the complexity of the Ebola response in DRC, the risks faced by healthcare workers, and the commitment of the teams mobilized to contain the outbreak, care for patients and support frontline health facilities.
