Providing Care Where It’s Needed Most (video)

Since 2009, ALIMA has worked alongside communities and local health workers to provide medical care where it is urgently needed.

So, what happens when the people closest to a crisis are given the resources and support to lead its response? Our latest video follows the story of Wisal’s to answer that question.

At ALIMA, local health workers are at the heart of how we deliver lifesaving humanitarian medical care. Across more than 15 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Haiti, ALIMA treats malnutrition, responds to epidemics, supports maternal, pediatric, and mental health, and works alongside the health workers who provide care in some of the world’s most challenging environments. Our model is built on a foundational belief: that humanitarian action starts with local leadership.

As a skilled member of ALIMA’s healthcare network — and someone who has experienced displacement firsthand — Wisal understands what the families in her care are going through. Her deep connection to the community she now calls home brings comfort to patients, builds trust, and makes care more accessible to those who need it most.

Her story is a testament to the power of community-led action.
