CELEBRATING ALIMA’s 10th ANNIVERSARY: 420,000 EUROS RAISED IN PARIS TO TRANSFORM HUMANITARIAN MEDICINE

ALIMA celebrated our 10th anniversary in 2019. These were unprecedented moments of recognition of our commitment to innovative humanitarian action in Africa. At the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, a fundraising evening was held with the support of the ALIMA Europe Campaign Committee co-chaired by Tidjane Dème and Serge Morelli.

After events in Dakar and New York, the celebration of ALIMA’s 10th anniversary continued in Paris on November 26, 2019. This dinner was an opportunity to support our fundraising campaign “Transforming Humanitarian Medicine,” which aims to raise 10 million euros on ALIMA’s priority needs that are poorly funded by donors.

420,000 euros raised: beyond expectations!

“Tonight, our guests exceeded the expectations of the campaign committee: more than 420,000 euros were raised,” said Serge Morelli, co-president of ALIMA’s Europe Campaign Committee. “This is a great success that gives new momentum to our campaign, which is being carried out on three continents.”

ALIMA3: 3 evenings, 3 continents, 3 funds

“Our ALIMA ‘cubed’ concept: 3 evenings on 3 continents to finance 3 funds was a great success,” said Tidjane Deme. “Thanks to the generosity of the guests, these three evenings will allow for an acceleration of ALIMA’s projects in the field and, ultimately, save lives. I have no words to express my gratitude for  the generosity of the people present. Thank you all.” ;

An evening to celebrate successes and look ahead to future challenges

This evening was an opportunity to look back on 10 years of medical action: 5 million patients treated, 29 research projects carried out, a unique alliance of partners to transform humanitarian medicine.

“ALIMA was born from a group of people who wanted to mobilize on behalf of the patients and find solutions to medical problems in the field,” said Dr. Richard Kojan, ALIMA’s President.   “The CUBE is a good example of this. It is a major innovation for medicine and it changes the lives of patients with Ebola.”

For Augustin Augier, Chief Executive Officerof ALIMA, this evening was an opportunity to create a direct meeting between people from the field and donors, and to explain the needs and ambitions of ALIMA.

“ALIMA’s financial model allows for a multiplier effect, as these three funds finance projects in the initial phase and allow ALIMA to mobilize the support of institutional donors at a later stage,” Augustin said.

To celebrate ALIMA’s 10th anniversary, the evening was also animated with a concert by Ablaye Cissoko, a world-renowned Kora (African lute-harp) player. Singer Awa Ly and her guitarist also gave a performance to thank donors and support ALIMA.

ALIMA thanks the members of the Europe Campaign Committee and the partners (OBO, Maison Faiveley, Charles Heidsieck, Novelty) who supported the organisation of this evening with their generosity.
