ALIMA continues its commitment to the fight against COVID-19 in Africa and launches a campaign to support vaccination
Dakar, Senegal, June 22, 2021 – ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) is working to vaccinate the most vulnerable communities against COVID-19, and thus addressing the many challenges related to the pandemic on the African continent.
World Malaria day: The time to act is now!
On World Malaria Day, April 25th, ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action), in partnership with Canal+ International, is calling on actors to come together to fight the disease. Since 2009, ALIMA and its partners have been supporting national health ministries to implement activities for the prevention, screening and treatment of malaria.
Lassa fever in Nigeria: Promising results from a new study will improve the quality of care
Results of the largest prospective cohort study ever conducted on Lassa fever, known as LASCOPE (LASsa fever clinical COurse and Prognostic factors in an Epidemic context in Nigeria), which was conducted by a research team from ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) and its partners*, have been published in The Lancet, one of the most prestigious, peer-reviewed medical journals.
Burkina Faso: Interview with Dr. Kolle, a surgeon in Kaya
Recognized for its actions in the fight against malnutrition and disease outbreaks, and for its medical research, ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) also carries out surgical projects. Haiti in 2010, just after the earthquake; Mali; Niger; Central African Republic; and most recently: Burkina Faso. ALIMA opened two such projects in the “Land of Upright Men,” in 2020: one in Kaya – 100km northeast of Ouagadougou, the capital, and the other in Barsalogho – 50km north of Kaya.

Ebola in Guinea: ALIMA prepares to respond to the country’s first outbreak since 2016
Following the confirmation of several people infected with the Ebola Virus Disease in Guinea’s N’Zérékoré region, an emergency response team from ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) is already on the ground working with national and local authorities to conduct a needs assessment of the health structures and communities in the affected area, and prepare for an eventual support to the response.
TACKLING COVID-19: A look back at the response in Africa
In March 2020, the first cases were confirmed in the 12 sub-Saharan African countries where we work, and the already fragile health systems were put to the test.

continent, and this one is stronger than the first, and deadlier.
Facing the second wave of COVID-19, countries in sub-Saharan Africa lack resources and vaccines
“ALIMA is calling for equitable access to vaccines as soon as possible,” says Dr. Moumouni Kinda, ALIMA’s Director of Operations. “It is necessary to work to ensure that Africa has access to safe and quality vaccines following a strategy adapted to the African context, in terms of accessibility – cost, storage temperature – and targeting of people to be vaccinated, initially limited to those most vulnerable to COVID-19.”
