ALIMA welcomes its newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, a doctor committed to caring for the most vulnerable
Doctor Moumouni Kinda, Director of Operations at ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) was appointed as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the humanitarian medical organisation. Dr. Kinda took office on February 1, 2021, at ALIMA’s operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal, in order to be as close as possible to the field to respond to medical emergencies in Africa. He will take the place of ALIMA’s co-founder and current CEO, Augustin Augier, who has successfully completed his mandate.

The goal: To better take into account the impact of climate change within our activities and reduce our carbon footprint.

The actions of solidarity organizations, crucial as they may be, can nevertheless generate environmental and climate impacts. Therefore, for the humanitarian sector, taking these issues into account is a question of overall coherence of action, exemplarity and respect for the principle of “do no harm”.
ALIMA fundraising event 2020: “The New Generation of Humanitarians” – More than 550,000 euros raised
ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) held its annual fundraising event, on November 24, in a new format this year: A virtual evening, broadcast simultaneously in Paris, Dakar, and New York City, filmed live from the famous Gabriel studio on the Champs Elysées in France – a space graciously donated by our partner AMP Visual – and viewed by supporters from around the world.
COVID-19 in Burkina Faso: “We should not claim victory early, but instead we should move step by step.”
In Burkina Faso, where COVID-19 was declared on March 9, 2020, ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) and its local NGO partners KEOOGO and SOS Médecins Burkina Faso began supporting the Ministry of Health at the “Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Tengandogo” in Ouagadougou, the country’s capital. Dr. Eudoxie Koumbem is one of the 133 medical and hygienic staff of the consortium working to ensure quality care. By mid-June, more than 80% of the COVID-19 confirmed patients received at the hospital had been cured. Dr. Eudoxie tells us more.
OptiMA research in Burkina Faso: The British Journal of Nutrition publishes promising results from an study
ALIMA is pioneering research in a new approach to treating acute malnutrition called OptiMA (OPTImizing the treatment of Acute Malnutrition). Results from the first pilot study in Burkina Faso were just published in the British Journal of Nutrition, showing the promise of OptiMA.
Central African Republic: ALIMA’s mobile clinics care for flood victims
Following weeks of heavy rains, and the worst flooding seen in more than 20 years in the Central African Republic’s (CAR) capital city, Bangui, ALIMA (The Alliance For International Medical Action) launched mobile clinics to provide emergency medical care to the most-affected populations.
ALIMA: an African Medical Alliance that is transforming humanitarian aid
Created in 2009, ALIMA aims to transform humanitarian medicine using an innovative intervention model that combines humanitarian action, research and local partnerships. In 2019, ALIMA teams worked in 11 African countries, treating 4,000 patients each day, and carrying out 29 research and innovation projects.
EBOLA in DRC: Results of the randomized clinical trial published in The New England Journal of Medicine
The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), the most-prestigious peer-reviewed American medical journal, published the results of the randomised clinical trial on Ebola treatments in North Kivu, a conflict zone in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, implemented by ALIMA and its various partners and research institutes, in an article on November 27, 2019.
